One Hand Clapping
One Hand Clapping is a puzzle platformer that requires players to sing into their microphone to solve puzzles and discover a musical world.
Thomas began developing One Hand Clapping, in partnership with fellow student Rama Gosula, in the Intermediate Game Design class that I taught in 2016. After creating a strong first playable, Thomas continued developing the game with a larger team in the Advanced Game Project class, for which I was the design mentor. From the beginning, Thomas produced a tremendous variety of experimental mechanics, demonstrating his creativity and work ethic. In both classes, I guided Thomas and his team to test and refine the game's experience goals, and focus the mechanics to create a smoother gameplay arc.
One Hand Clapping was awarded the IndieCade Choice Award in 2018, and was a finalist for both the 2019 Games for Change Awards and IGF. Thomas and his team recently entered an arrangement with a publisher, HandyGames, and a larger game is planned for release on multiple consoles in 2021.
